The holiday season signals the start of planning for festive meals, gift-giving and special events for family and friends. Unfortunately, there are some who are not able to afford these celebrations with expenses going toward basic needs.

ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons, a Chicago-based company providing commercial disaster restoration services, is helping to make the season brighter for several Skokie families, in one of its services areas. The company donated to the Village of Skokie’s Assist-A-Family program which helps Skokie families with limited financial resources celebrate the holidays by receiving gift cards from area businesses to purchase food, household necessities and other items. Last year, 210 families received support.

ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons’ President Nasutsa Mabwa became involved with this project through her connection with the village.

“Our company regularly partners with the Village of Skokie and we wanted to give back in a more meaningful way, in particular, in this post pandemic time to a Skokie family this year,” she said.

Village of Skokie Health and Human Services Director Michael Charley appreciates the support from local companies like ServiceMaster.

“The generosity of Skokie businesses, including ServiceMaster by Simons, that join numerous Skokie residents who donate to the Assist-A-Family program, are truly caring for their neighbors in need,” he said. “The Village of Skokie is grateful to ServiceMaster by Simons and all Assist-A-Family donors.”

This is one of the many charitable projects that the company does with the village and some of the other North Shore communities it serves.

“ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons is proud and honored to support and engage in the communities we serve by giving back,” Mabwa said. “ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons fosters and nurtures an environment of giving, meaningful service and charity to those in need and the organizations that serve them. This philosophy is deeply ingrained in ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons’ company culture. Our company is a long time corporate sponsor of The Talking Farm in Skokie, the Green and Clean Skokie and Skokie Adopt-A-Street programs along with many other nonprofit organizations.”
