ServiceMaster by Simons’ Experience Is Vital In An Infected Economy

CHICAGO (PRWEB), May 28, 2020 – The Chicagoland economy is mostly shut down except for sectors deemed “essential.” That group includes, among others, healthcare facilities, grocery stores and… cleaning services.

Companies like ServiceMaster Cleaning By Simons and ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons are still on the job and active because of the services they provide, among them COVID-19 Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting. While some cleaning companies have lost significant chunks of business due to the closings of offices and schools, experienced providers like ServiceMaster By Simons are being sought by businesses and facilities in the Chicagoland area that need infection-fighting expertise.

“There is a significant need for the services we provide,” said Sam Simon, owner of ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons in Chicago. “We are very busy helping other essential services stay open and safe. In fact, we’ve had to hire and train additional technicians to meet the demand.”

The need for COVID-19 Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting is urgent right now as healthcare providers such as nursing homes, walk-in clinics and emergency responders must remain open and safe for their patients and staff. Other businesses such as banks and hospitals are seeking expanded services from vendors such as ServiceMaster Cleaning By Simons and ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons.

The demand may not subside for a while as the number of infected persons increases significantly each day, especially as the guidelines for quarantine relax in Illinois. Also, research has indicated that the COVID-19 virus can survive for many days on non-porous surfaces.

“Our services are vital for some Chicagoland businesses right now,” said Nasutsa Mabwa, President of ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons. “In the healthcare industry, we are helping keep the healthcare workers healthy, like those in senior living and outpatient facilities. Our role is to help break the chain of infection.”

The need for cleaning and disinfecting are nothing new for ServiceMaster; the company has been around for more than six decades.

“This is something that we study and train for constantly,” said Peter Duncanson, Director of Commercial Operations for ServiceMaster Restore. “Our vision statement says we care, we serve and we deliver, and that we will be there when our customers and communities need us most. Now is that time.”

Chicago-Based ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons Pivots Business with COVID-19 Specialty Cleaning

CHICAGO, May 21, 2020 – In their seven years of running ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons in Chicago, husband and wife owners Sam Simon and Nasutsa Mabwa know the severe damage that fires and floods can cause to property and to their clients’ peace of mind.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Chicagoland, they didn’t realize how potentially deadly the virus would be and how it would affect their professional and personal lives. In March, many small businesses temporarily shut their doors due to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s emergency shelter in place order. It was at that time, Simon recalled, that calls for any services stopped.

“We attributed it to the public shock and confusion and the fear that the people had about coming into contact with others,” said Simon, managing director of ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons. “People were scared to let us in their homes. As business owners, we were sad to see our business declining after all the hard work we put in for the past seven years.”

The couple learned that other ServiceMaster franchises were offering COVID-19 cleaning services around the country, but safety—for their staff and family—was a major concern.

Things began to turn around in April when the couple’s clientele contacted their business for COVID-19 cleaning and disinfecting services. Additionally, Simon said ServiceMaster Corporate started releasing information to franchisees about COVID-19 Cleaning and Safety Standards—a big help to owners to help them pivot to offering these new services. This combination of events led Simon to create a COVID-19 Cleaning Service page on their business’ website and the phone hasn’t stopped ringing.

Reflecting on Simon and Mabwa’s prior work as Illinois-state based social workers, Simon realized the need to help people in dire circumstances was first and foremost.

“With Nasutsa’s and my background in social work and child-welfare we knew we had to help people,” Simon said. “We wanted to get involved. We already had the infrastructure in place since we had the disaster and catastrophe training, OSHA and Safety Training, biohazard training, and the fogging and spraying equipment necessary to begin decontamination services. Since the web page was put in place, we’ve fielded hundreds of calls, and the calls are still coming in daily.”

Their experience as social workers has also been invaluable while implementing request screening procedures with staff and being an empathetic line of communication with their clientele.

“That aspect of our experience kicked in as I found myself counseling people amidst the fear and confusion while trying to schedule services,” Mabwa said. “I found myself assuring and reassuring people who were scared, people who had lost loved ones, and companies who had employees affected by COVID-19. People need a clear and calm direction, and as first responders, I felt it was our responsibility to help as many people as we could.

On the frontlines are Simon and his crews who survey the damage and create solutions for the crises they encounter.

“In one case, we were called out to a distribution center that was so large, that Sam had to sit down with the property owners and go over the blueprints of the location in order to understand its sprawling layout and the customers’ priorities for cleaning and disinfection,” Mabwa said. “Sam thrives in crises.”

Daily schedules for both husband and wife are chaotic as they manage their business and raising their young family. The COVID-19 pandemic may have caught small business owners off guard early, but being flexible and creative has given this couple the opening they need to plan for positive outcomes.

“As business owners, we need to be fluid in times of crisis,” Mabwa said. “We were early to respond to the new demand for COVID-19 cleaning & disinfection in the marketplace and we were able to pivot and deliver a new service offering immediately. There may be more pivots in the future and, as a business, you need to be able to adapt to the conditions.”

Nasutsa Mabwa, RE Journals 18th Annual Commercial Real Estate Forecast Conference

Nasutsa Mabwa, President of ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons, a disaster restoration and specialty cleaning franchise servicing Chicago, North Shore, and Oak Park, moderated the property management real estate panel at the RE Journals 18th Annual Commercial Real Estate Forecast Conference, Hyatt Regency Chicago.

The property management session panelists included Elena Jimenez, Property Manager, the Missner Group, Derrick Johnson, Senior VP, Zeller Realty Group, and Ken Verne, Senior VP, Bridge Development Partners. Mabwa moderated a range of property management panel topics including:

Increase of cook county and state real estate property taxes and direct effect on operating budgets, increased labor costs, lack of industry bench strength and talent to fill positions, strategies to successfully handle risk management of properties, and challenges managing different property types such as cold storage, industrial and data storage properties.

“As the demand for cold storage warehousing gains momentum due to the shift towards online grocery ordering and food prep produce, the total square footage of cold storage warehouse space in key markets is expected to grow in 2020. Property managers are dealing with very difficult cold storage warehouse risk management issues including ammonia, refrigeration, piping, and large HVAC systems in these properties. As an emergency restoration service provider, ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons is aware of these complicated building systems and prepared for potential hazards that come with managing cold storage properties.” – Nasutsa Mabwa, President

ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons “Thankful” To Assist With Hurricane Matthew Recovery Efforts in Hilton Head, SC

ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons provides disaster restoration from water damage restoration, flood damage restoration, fire damage restoration as well as specialty cleaning services in Chicago, Oak Park, River Forest, and Chicago’s Northshore.
Hurricane Matthew, a level 4 hurricane in SC, dumped 13.6 trillion gallons of water on the U.S. and 11 inches of water in Hilton Head, SC on October 8th. Hurricane Matthew is the costliest storm since Sandy in 2012. According to estimates, Hurricane Matthew caused more than $12.2 million of commercial damage in Hilton Head.

“I have never seen such an intense level of damage when carrying out emergency disaster restoration efforts,” said Sam Simon, Chief Operating Officer, ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons. “The effects from Hurricane Matthew are devastating and we are proud to assist local homeowners and businesses in recovery efforts.”

The damage in Hilton Head was reported to be the worst in the Sea Pines Resort, a 5,200-acre private residential gated community located on the southern tip of Hilton Head Island. ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons led disaster restoration efforts tirelessly, for weeks on end.
On Hilton Head, there were numerous fallen trees, over 1,000 damaged homes, considerable dock damage and massive beach erosion, undoing a costly beach re-nourishment coastline project that recently began in June. In the Sea Pines Community, fallen trees blocked roadways, the majority of homes sustained visible roof damage and standing water was observed everywhere.

The first recovery and restoration crews were dispatched to begin work and cut their way across the island at the beginning of October. ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons was one of 30 franchises out of 75 selected to mobilize to the Carolinas. As Hurricane Matthew advanced further, ServiceMaster Restoration by Simons loaded up restoration equipment, prepared its fleet and crews back in Chicago while closely monitoring Matthew’s progress.

“As the water recedes, local residents and business owners have begun to get back on their feet but the work is far from finished,” Simon said. “Yet we feel gratified and thankful to have been part of the early stages of relief efforts to help them begin the process of restoring their homes and business.”

ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons helps Chicagoland Customers Save Money and Have Healthier Indoor Air with Air Duct Cleaning

Chicago, IL. December 30, 2015 – A recent study by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) found that proper HVAC maintenance and cleaning procedures could save businesses an average of 11% in energy savings.*

SERVICEMASTER Restoration By Simons owner Sam Simon said, “Indoor air pollutants require an HVAC system to work harder to heat and cool a facility. Pollutants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated an average of 5 to 7 times per day. Over time, this causes a build-up of pollutants in the ductwork. Removing the build-up allows the HVAC system to work more efficiently.”

In addition to energy savings, air duct cleaning provides a healthier environment for allergy sufferers and those with respiratory illnesses. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) studies have found that indoor air maybe two to five times—and occasionally more than 100 times—more polluted than outdoor air. Considering that the average American spends 90% of their time indoors, improving indoor air quality is vital. Indoor air pollutants can cause immediate and long-term health problems.** One way to improve your home’s indoor air quality is to have its air ducts cleaned.

SERVICEMASTER Restoration By Simons currently offers Water Clean Up, Fire Clean/Smoke Clean Up, Mold Remediation, Trauma Clean Up, Vandalism Clean Up, Hurricane Recovery services in and around the Chicagoland area.
