Upholstery Care Tips for Chicago Homeowners

Having your upholstered furniture professionally cleaned in your West Town house, apartment, or condo at least once a year will help it look better and last longer! But the benefits of calling on the Chicago-based upholstered furniture cleaning pros at ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons don’t end there! Frequent upholstery cleaning can also improve and maintain your family’s health by removing the nasty bacteria and allergens—most notably mold, dust, and mildew—that build up in your chairs, sofa(s), and other pieces of furniture over time.

Proper upholstery cleaning shouldn’t be undertaken with a one-size-fits-all approach. That’s because different types of upholstery (and stains) require unique methods of treatment to obtain optimum results. At ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons, we have the tools, experience, and resources to properly clean and refresh all of your upholstery. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.

In addition to regularly scheduled upholstery cleaning, there are other steps homeowners can take to keep their furniture looking good and lasting longer. Here are some helpful tips:

    • Vacuum at regular intervals. Of course, it makes good sense to vacuum the furniture that’s used the most in your home more often. Once in awhile, you should also vacuum underneath the cushions to remove the crumbs and pet hairs that inevitably congregate there.
    • Tend to spills immediately. The longer a spill remains, the harder it is to get out. Using a clean white towel, blot the stain. If it’s appropriate, apply the correct spot remover and work toward the center of the spot. Repeat as needed, but use caution.
    • Rotate the cushions. Most folks and many of our furry, four-legged friends like to claim one area of the couch or a particular chair as a favorite place to sit and relax. Unfortunately, this scenario often results in some cushions seeing much more wear than others. By rotating the cushions regularly, they’ll wear more evenly and have a longer life, which can save big money in replacement costs.
    • Minimize sun exposure. If possible, keep your upholstered furniture out of direct sunlight to minimize fading. Use blinds at appropriate times to help accomplish this.
